About this experience
Step into a local home bakery in Panadura and spend three hands-on hours learning the craft behind Sri Lanka's traditional baked goods. Your English-speaking guide introduces you to a home-based baker who still relies on time-honoured techniques — you knead dough by hand, shape loaves and pastries, and slide them into a clay oven just as bakers here have done for generations. Along the way, you pick up the story of Sri Lanka's baking heritage and discover the local ingredients that give these recipes their character.
Once the baking is done, sit down with the baker's family for tea or coffee and a spread of freshly made pastries — included in your tour. This is a private experience, so the pace is yours to set, and children aged five and above are welcome to join in. Transport to and from your hotel is not included, so arrange your own way to the bakery; all taxes and service charges are covered.
