Little Villa

Wadduwa, Sri Lanka
★★★★

Little Villa is a small guest house in Wadduwa, a traditional bungalow that has long been a family home and now takes guests in 8 bedrooms. It stands at the end of a quiet lane in one of the villages that make up Wadduwa, looking out over paddy fields and sheltered by a mature garden of mango, breadfruit and citrus trees.

Where is Little Villa?

The guest house is on Maha Vihara Road in Wadduwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, a few hundred metres from the Wadduwa Maha Viharaya temple. It is inland rather than on the sand: Wadduwa Beach is about 1.6 km away, roughly 10 minutes from the gate. Colombo lies to the north along the coast, and Bandaranaike International Airport is about 57 km away as the crow flies.

How do I get from Colombo Airport to Little Villa?

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the guest house by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to Little Villa in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Little Villa.

What are the rooms like?

With only 8 bedrooms, Little Villa keeps the feel of a private house rather than a hotel. The double rooms are air-conditioned, with a private bathroom and a balcony. Wi-Fi is available and there is free parking on site.

Where can I eat?

Breakfast is served at the guest house each morning, and the hosts can prepare packed meals for days out. Room service is available, and the garden has a barbecue area for relaxed evenings. For a wider choice, the restaurants of Wadduwa and the beach hotels along the coast are a short drive away.

What is there to do around Wadduwa?

The garden and the surrounding paddy fields make Little Villa a peaceful place to slow down, and bicycles are available for exploring the village lanes. Wadduwa Beach is close enough for a morning swim or an evening walk at sunset. Further south along the coast are the Kalutara Bodhiya, one of the most revered Buddhist shrines on the island, Richmond Castle near Kalutara, and river boat safaris on the Bentota River. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the guest house.
