The Frangipani Tree is a small boutique villa on the beach at the west end of Thalpe Bay, on Sri Lanka's south coast, about 8 kilometres from Galle Fort. Thalpe Railway Station is 0.8 km away and Unawatuna Railway Station 3.7 km, and the property sits among tropical gardens beside the sea.
Talpe is about 156 km by road from Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake, a drive that usually takes 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic, and the coastal railway also stops at Thalpe Station nearby. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to The Frangipani Tree.
There are nine suites spread across three villas, named Hawksbill, Leatherback and Olive Ridley. Each suite has modern furnishings, a four-poster bed with good linen, and a private terrace or verandah looking out to the ocean.
An outdoor swimming pool is set among sun loungers and greenery, and guests have the use of a private tennis court. Massages and other wellness treatments can be arranged in your suite on request, and there is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property.
The on-site restaurant serves a range of Sri Lankan and international dishes, and in the area there are cooking classes with local chefs for guests who want to learn to prepare traditional Sri Lankan food.
Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its colonial streets and ramparts, is a short drive west, and Unawatuna Beach is close by for swimming and snorkelling. Nearby turtle hatcheries work to protect sea turtles, and local markets sell fresh produce and handicrafts.
