The Glasshouse Victoria is a four-bedroom country house on the edge of the Victoria Reservoir at Digana, right beside the Victoria Golf Club and about 45 minutes from Kandy. Set in green, open landscape, it looks out over the lake to the Knuckles mountain range – a quiet retreat for exploring the hill capital and the cultural heartland.
Four rooms across 6,000 sq ft of living space sleep up to 10 guests. Flamingo is a Deluxe room with a queen bed; Peacock and Flycatcher are Premium garden-view rooms with king beds; and the Hornbill Master Suite has a super-king bed and a walk-in wardrobe. The Premium rooms and the suite each have a day bed for a third guest. All rooms have double beds (no twins) and tea and coffee facilities. The villa can be bought out for up to eight guests, or ten with extra beds.
Rates include afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast, with lunch on request, and the infinity pool looks over the reservoir. A complimentary guided walk or temple visit is included on a two-night half-board stay.
The Victoria Golf course, designed by Donald Steel and Martin Ebert, opened in 1999 and ranked among the 100 most beautiful golf courses in the world, is five minutes away. Guests can kayak the reservoir or go out with local fishermen, visit the second-century cave temple at Bambaragala and continue to the summit of Pettigala, or see the Victoria Dam. The Cinnamon Air landing spot is five minutes away and Pallekele cricket stadium twenty.
Check-in is at 2 pm and check-out at 10 am; early or late times can be arranged for a fee. With a 4.5 ft pool and an open design, the house is not ideal for children under 11; children up to 3 stay free and those aged 4 to 11 are charged half the adult rate with an extra bed. A supplement applies on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Drivers and guides are not housed on site, but the team can arrange a room nearby.
