Alkin Adventure Resort, Dambulla, Sri Lanka

Nestled among lush green mountains, wilderness, lakes, and water streams near the banks of the magnificent Kandalama tank, Alkin Adventure Resort in Dambulla is a place where nature and hospitality meet on genuinely equal terms. In true eco spirit, the resort has been built so that its presence in the natural environment has been graciously accepted by both the flora and fauna that surround it.

The resort offers guests a real experience of nature and adventure within an eco-friendly setting, coupled with superior quality Sri Lankan hospitality and fine cuisine. The result is an unhurried retreat that feels as much a part of the landscape as the wilderness itself.

Accommodation

Guests are housed in seven different cottages, each constructed from natural raw materials — clay, timber, straw, cadjan, and similar traditional building elements. Two of the cottages, both named Thammannawa, illustrate the range on offer.

Cottage No. 1 – Thammannawa features an open verandah, a living room, one fully enclosed bedroom, and a second bedroom with half walls that invites the surrounding air and light inside. It is ideal for a family or a group of up to six people, and comes with a separate bathroom and an open shower. An additional bed can be provided on request.

Cottage No. 2 – Thammannawa 2 is a more intimate option, with an open verandah, one bedroom, and an attached bathroom with shower. An additional bed can also be provided here on request.

Food and Dining

All food and drinks emerging from the resort's kitchen are prepared daily using fresh, often home-grown, indigenous produce. An experienced cook handles a wide range of Chinese, Western, and Sri Lankan menus, while a village elder is specially on hand to prepare traditional Sri Lankan rural food — a detail that adds an authentic and unhurried quality to mealtimes.

Camping and Bonfire

Safe camping sites are located within the jungle area of the resort. Campfires are lit at night, providing warmth and light while guests sing songs and enjoy themselves around the flames. Meals can also be taken around the campfire, and a music group can be arranged for entertainment.

BBQ Nights

The resort has experienced staff for handling BBQ evenings. A special BBQ featuring lake fish is available on request, making good use of the waterways that define the surrounding landscape.

Transport and Excursions

For those keen to explore further, the resort can arrange bicycles, off-road motorcycles, four-wheel-drive jeeps, double cabs, cars, vans, microbuses, and coaches for tours and safari outings in the wider Dambulla region.
