Moi Induruwa by DBI is a small beachfront hotel at Induruwa on Sri Lanka's south-west coast, where every room has a private balcony looking straight out to sea. One of the five Moi hotels run by the Sri Lankan group DBI, it has a pool, a restaurant and bar, and a quiet stretch of sand a few kilometres south of the busier resorts of Bentota.
The hotel is a modern white building of just a dozen or so rooms, set behind a low sea wall with the beach on the other side. Every room has a private balcony with a direct ocean view, air-conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, a hairdryer and refillable eco-friendly toiletries, and free Wi-Fi. It is a small, unhurried place built around a swimming pool with wooden sun loungers, a breezy lounge with rattan furniture, a terrace and a bar, with the beach a few steps away. Bathrooms are finished in bold stone-effect tiles, and the rooms are simply furnished in white and soft blue. Ask the hotel about beach conditions when you arrive, as the sea along this coast can be rough during the south-west monsoon.
The restaurant serves Sri Lankan dishes, Asian favourites and international comfort food, with seafood when it is available, and you can eat on the terrace. Coffee and light bites are available through the day, the bar serves drinks after sunset, and the kitchen can prepare picnics, child-friendly plates and meals for special diets if you ask in advance.
Induruwa Beach is quieter than its neighbours, and the village of Induruwa is just up the road. A few kilometres south, at Kosgoda, the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project lets you see hatchlings before they are released. To the north, Bentota has water sports on the Bentota River, Geoffrey Bawa's garden estate at Lunuganga and his brother Bevis's Brief Garden, while boat trips through the mangroves of the Madu Ganga start a little further south at Balapitiya.
Yes. The coast line from Colombo runs right behind the beach here: Maha Induruwa halt is only about 300 metres from the hotel in a straight line, and Induruwa station is about 3 kilometres away. Bentota, a larger station, is about 7 kilometres north.
Induruwa is about 90 kilometres south of Bandaranaike International Airport in a straight line. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Moi Induruwa, which takes you all the way to the door.
