This is a Sinhala-language question paper collection, written entirely in Sinhala with no English text, and intended for children preparing for the Grade Five scholarship examination in Sri Lanka. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should be clear on that before ordering: a reader needs Sinhala to use it.
It forms the first stage of the Gunasena Shishyathwa Thakshalawa series, which runs in sequence as the Peacock Edition, the Falcon Edition and the Eagle Edition. The publisher's intention is that a child works through this set first, then moves on to the Falcon and Eagle sets as practice becomes harder.
Inside are model question papers covering both Paper I and Paper II, set at Grade Three level, with answers supplied. A video programme discussing the papers has been produced alongside the book, and the QR code printed on the back cover links to it, so a parent or tutor working through a paper with a child can bring up the accompanying discussion.
The compilers are Sajith Abeysekara and Kasun Ganewaththa, teachers with experience in primary education. Both completed the National Diploma in Teaching at Hapitigama National College of Education, Mirigama.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, an established Colombo publisher of Sinhala and English titles with a long presence in the Sri Lankan schoolbook trade. This is a working practice book rather than a textbook — the kind of thing bought by families beginning scholarship preparation early, and by Sinhala-speaking households abroad who want their children following the same examination material as children at home.
