A historical novel in Sinhala, set in the Kandyan court around Sri Vira Parakrama Narendrasinha — the Kundasale prince remembered by the nickname that casts him as a king at play, and the last Sinhala king named in the Rajavaliya. Rather than attempt a full life, the book takes one period of his reign as its ground and builds its story there.

Around the king stand figures drawn from the historical record: Pramila Devi, Daskon Adikaram, Monaravila Kumarihami, Keppetipola Maha Nilame, Rammolaka Maha Adikaram and the Venerable Welivita Saranankara. Anthony works these names into invented episode and dialogue, so the result sits between chronicle and fiction — recognisable people and a recorded court, given motive, speech and private life by the novelist.

This is the first novel by Jackson Anthony, a senior figure in Sri Lankan arts, and it is written in a distinct prose style of his own.

Please note: the text is entirely in Sinhala. There is no English translation within this volume, so it will suit readers who are comfortable reading Sinhala prose — Sri Lankan readers abroad, students of the language, and those collecting Sinhala historical fiction. Buyers who do not read Sinhala will not be able to follow the narrative.
