Batapola el is a traditional Sri Lankan rice variety, sold here by Bowatte. It is one of the heirloom rices that are still grown on the island alongside the modern varieties.
It is cooked as a plain rice to serve with Sri Lankan curries, sambols and mallum, or used for rice porridge.
How to cook
Rinse the rice a few times, then boil it or cook it in a rice cooker. Traditional rice usually needs more water and a longer cooking time than polished white rice; see the label.
In the pack
One 500g pack of raw rice.
Storage
Keep in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
