This is a Sinhala-language title, printed in Sinhala script throughout, from the Colombo publisher Godage International Publishers. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should know that there is no English text in it; reading it requires Sinhala. The title renders literally into English as Fathers and Sons.
Denagama Siriwardena was born in 1945 in Hakmana, in the Matara district of southern Sri Lanka. He began his working life as a teacher in 1964, and moved into journalism in 1982 as a feature writer for the Sinhala daily Divaina. He went on to hold editorial posts at Vidusara and Vathmana, and from 1995 at Silumina, the Sunday Sinhala paper. That combination — the classroom first, then two decades in Sinhala newsrooms — shapes the kind of writer he became, and much of his published work has been directed at young readers.
His youth novel Mithuro, which appeared in English as Friends, received an IBBY award in 1994. He also won State Youth Literature awards for Gurupadhuru in 1995 and for Punchi Gopalla in 1998. His autobiography, Denagama Watha, was published by Sarasavi in 2025.
Godage International Publishers is a long-established Colombo house issuing work in Sinhala and English across fiction, history, education and children's writing, and it has published a great deal of contemporary Sinhala literature. For readers abroad who keep up with Sinhala writing — members of the diaspora, students of modern Sinhala literature, libraries building a Sri Lankan collection — this is one of Denagama Siriwardena's titles under that imprint.
