SLADC Ushirasawaya is an asawaya, a traditional fermented herbal liquid named after ushira, the Sanskrit word for vetiver. Among its ingredients the corporation lists vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides, savandara), Indian madder (Rubia cordifolia, wel madata), lotus (Nelumbo nucifera, nelum) and kapok (Eriodendron anfractuosum, ela imbul).
Fermentation produces a small amount of natural alcohol, which the maker puts at 5 to 6 percent. It comes in 375 ml and 750 ml bottles.
The Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drugs Corporation (SLADC) is Sri Lanka’s state-owned maker of Ayurvedic medicines, at Navinna in Maharagama since 1969. Ask a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before use.
