Mlesna's 5 Regional Assorted Ceylon Black Tea brings together five distinct pure Ceylon black teas, each sourced from a different growing region of Sri Lanka and packed into its own individual folding carton. The total net weight across the five cartons is 230 grams. Every carton carries the Ceylon Tea Symbol of Quality — the Sri Lanka Tea Board's Lion Logo — which confirms that the tea inside is 100% pure Ceylon, packed in Sri Lanka, and produced to standards set by the Board. No overseas packer is permitted to carry this mark.
The five regions represented are Matale, Ruhunu, Nuwara Eliya, Dimbula, and Uva, and the differences between them are genuine and pronounced. The Matale carton (40 grams, brown box) holds a Low Medium Flowery Pekoe — a mid-country grade that reflects the central province's moderate elevations. The Ruhunu carton (40 grams, black box) contains a Low Grown B.O.P.1 from Sri Lanka's southern lowlands, where the growing conditions produce a characteristically deep, full infusion. Nuwara Eliya (50 grams, red box) is the island's most elevated tea district; its tea brews to a pale golden hue with a delicately fragrant character that sets it apart from every other Ceylon type.
Dimbula (50 grams, blue box) is classified as high grown, situated in a region of complex topography above 1,250 metres; the result is a tea with a fine golden-orange colour and a refreshingly mellow cup. The fifth carton, Uva (50 grams, green box), is also high grown and exposed to the influence of both the northeast and southwest monsoons. Teas from the Uva district carry an exotically aromatic quality with a smooth, mellow taste. Both the Dimbula and Uva cartons are graded as Broken Orange Pekoe, meaning the leaf is intentionally fractured during orthodox processing to increase surface area and deliver a fuller, faster infusion.
Mlesna (Ceylon) Ltd. was founded in 1983 by Anselm Perera, a former professional tea taster, and trades under Euro-Scan Exports (Pvt) Ltd. in Colombo. The company's catalogue spans more than 3,500 items across black, green, flavoured, and herbal teas in loose, teabag, and gift formats, and it has accumulated 82 awards for packaging excellence including 23 Lanka Star Awards and 9 WorldStar Awards from the World Packaging Organisation.
Each carton is labelled with a Date of Manufacture, Best Before date, and Batch Number, which are filled at the time of production. Store the cartons in a cool, dry place. The ingredient in every carton is the same in its simplicity: Pure Ceylon Black Tea.
