This Healthy Harvest herbal porridge (oushadeeya kenda) is built on four of Sri Lanka's traditional rice varieties, kalu heenati, suwandel, pachchaperumal and madathawalu, cooked into kola kenda, the leaf porridge Sri Lankans drink warm at breakfast.
Ingredients: Kalu heenati, suwandel, pachchaperumal and madathawalu rice, coconut milk powder, garlic, curry leaves and local spices. No added flavours, colourings or preservatives, says the box.
How to make it
Put just under five cups of water in a pan on the stove. If you like, add a little finely chopped garlic, red onion, curry leaves and rampe. Mix the contents of the pack well with cold water, stir it into the pan and cook, stirring, until it thickens. The box says one pack serves three.
Healthy Harvest is a Sri Lankan food brand best known for its kola kenda, the leaf and grain porridges of the Sri Lankan breakfast table. Made in Sri Lanka.
