A simple Sinhala retelling of Rapunzel, the fairy tale of the girl shut in a tower and the long hair that becomes her only way of reaching the world outside. It belongs to a series of fairy tale books from M. D. Gunasena & Co. made for young children in Sri Lanka.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation alongside it, so a buyer outside Sri Lanka should expect a book to be read by someone who reads Sinhala. The language has been kept plain and straightforward for small children, and the story is carried along by colour illustrations printed on glossy paper.
Written by Hiruni Fernando. It suits households raising children in Sinhala, families abroad keeping the language alive at home, and anyone building a small shelf of Sinhala picture books for reading aloud to a child who is not yet reading independently.
