A Sinhala-language title from Godage International Publishers, an established Colombo house publishing in Sinhala and English, placed in their Buddhist list and written by Upali J. Dayas.
The title names Fahiyan and Sunyun — Faxian and Song Yun, Chinese Buddhist travellers of the early centuries of the common era whose journeys westward in search of scripture and sacred sites are among the earliest written records of the Buddhist world outside China. Faxian's account in particular has long been read in Sri Lanka, since his travels brought him to the island.
The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation or parallel text. Buyers ordering from outside Sri Lanka should be comfortable reading Sinhala prose before purchasing.
It will suit Sinhala readers with an interest in Buddhist history and the early pilgrim literature, students and lay readers following the transmission of Buddhism across Asia, and collectors building a shelf of Sinhala-language Buddhist writing published in Colombo.
