A title from Godage, the long-established Colombo publishing house that issues work in both Sinhala and English across fiction, poetry, history and religion. Its English-language list carries a good deal of writing by Sri Lankan authors that is not easily met with outside the island.
The English title indicates an English-language text, so no reading knowledge of Sinhala is required. Books of this kind are printed for a domestic readership and circulate mainly through Colombo bookshops, which is what makes them awkward to find abroad.
It will suit readers who follow Sri Lankan writing in English and who buy from local publishers directly rather than waiting for an international release, along with libraries and collectors building holdings of contemporary work from the island.
