A retelling of the Cinderella story for young readers, written in simple English by Priyangwada Perera and illustrated in colour throughout.
The book belongs to a series of fairy tale titles produced by M. D. Gunasena & Co. for children in Sri Lanka. The familiar story is set out plainly, in language pitched at children who are still building confidence with English, and each stage of the tale is carried along by illustration as much as by text.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is an established Colombo publishing house with a long presence in Sri Lankan schoolbooks and children's titles. This one suits a child being read to at home, or an early reader working through a story they may already know in Sinhala.
Buyers outside Sri Lanka will find it a straightforward way to put a Sri Lankan-published English picture book into a child's hands — the same edition children here grow up with, rather than an international one.
