Beam Fiel is a Whitfield's ointment made in Sri Lanka by Beam Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd, sold in a small orange-and-white tube inside a matching carton. The tube holds 15g, and both tube and carton carry the Beam Fiel logo with the words A Beam Product.
The formula printed on the tube is short: salicylic acid 3%, benzoic acid 5% and beeswax in an emulsified base. Whitfield's ointment is a long-established preparation of salicylic and benzoic acids, named after the British dermatologist Arthur Whitfield, and is listed in the British Pharmacopoeia as Compound Benzoic Acid Ointment.
The carton directs that the area be cleaned with a disinfectant or warm water before the ointment is applied gently twice a day. It is marked for external use only and should not be applied to mucosal surfaces, and skin treated with it should be protected from sunlight and bright lamp radiation. Skin irritation has occasionally been reported on application.
Keep the tube out of the reach of children and store it below 30°C. The ointment is manufactured and distributed by Beam Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd of Kottawa, Pannipitiya, and carries a registration with Sri Lanka's Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Authority.
