Parade Green Elephant from Battler is a Ceylon green tea of GP1 grade in a 100 g tin caddy. It belongs to the Parade Elephant range, where each tea has its own coloured elephant on the tin.
GP1 is a gunpowder grade: each leaf is rolled into a small, tight pellet that unfurls in hot water. The cup is clean and grassy with delicate vegetal notes and a light golden liquor.
In the pack
- 100 g of loose leaf Ceylon green tea, GP1 grade
- Tin caddy, with the tea foil-sealed inside
- Shelf life of three years from packing, per the maker
Tasting notes
- Leaf: small, tightly rolled pellets
- Liquor: light golden
- Taste: clean and grassy, with soft vegetal notes
How to brew
Use one teaspoon (about 2.5 g) of leaf per cup and water at about 80 C, just off the boil. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes and strain; longer steeping turns green tea bitter. The rolled leaf expands well, so a level teaspoon is plenty, and it can be steeped twice.
Serving ideas
Serve plain, or with fresh mint leaves in the pot. The tin makes a neat gift.
