The Experience
Day 1: Colombo – Ratnapura – Induru Ganga – Palabaddala
Pickup from your hotel in Colombo and proceed to Ratnapura, Sri Lanka's renowned "City of Gems."
Upon arrival, meet your local guide and receive an introduction to the region's rich gem mining heritage before visiting Sri Lanka's largest primary gem market. Observe miners, traders, and collectors dealing with rough, cut, and polished gemstones, including sapphires, garnets, spinels, and zircons. Learn about the gemstone trade and interact with local merchants.
Enjoy a cup of traditional Sri Lankan tea and light refreshments at a local café before continuing to a working gem mine. Learn about traditional pit mining and river mining methods, observe mining operations, and experience basic gem panning techniques under supervision.
Afterward, visit a local lapidary workshop where skilled craftsmen demonstrate gemstone cutting and polishing techniques. Discover how rough stones are transformed into beautiful gemstones ready for international markets.

Day 2: Mapalana Falls – Ratnapura – Colombo
After breakfast, visit the spectacular Mapalana Falls, one of the most scenic waterfalls in the Ratnapura District. Surrounded by lush rainforest and tea plantations, the falls offer excellent opportunities for photography and nature appreciation.
Return to Palabaddala Tea & Eco Lodge and check out.
Proceed to Ratnapura and visit selected gemstone showrooms where you can browse certified Sri Lankan gemstones and gain further insight into the country's world-famous gem industry.
Enjoy free time for shopping and exploring the city before commencing the return journey to Colombo.
