Diyaluma Waterfall of Sri Lanka

Diyaluma Waterfall, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka, stands at approximately 171 metres and is recognised as the third highest waterfall in the country. It is situated at Koslanda, a locality nestled between Beragala and Wellawaya in the hill country, and its accessibility from the main road makes it one of the more rewarding natural stops for travellers passing through the region.

Beragala itself sits at the junction of the Badulla–Colombo main road, placing Diyaluma within easy reach of those travelling along this well-travelled route. Because the waterfall lies directly alongside the main road, visitors do not need to undertake a demanding detour to witness its full spectacle — a quality that has made it a consistently popular destination among both local and international tourists.

Getting There

The most straightforward approach to Diyaluma is via Koslanda along the Badulla–Colombo main road through Beragala. An alternative route leads through Poonagala from Bandarawela. Poonagala is particularly well known for its tea estates and the Tamil communities who have long worked and settled in the area, lending the surrounding landscape a character shaped as much by cultural heritage as by natural beauty.

Rising to about 171 metres, Diyaluma commands attention from a considerable distance. The cascade tumbles down a dramatic rock face, and the mist and sound it generates create a vivid impression even before the full view is reached.
