Dhammika Magic Palace is a small, family-run guest house in Wadduwa, on the south-west coast of Sri Lanka, set back from the sea in a quiet residential part of town. It has nine air-conditioned rooms around a garden and an outdoor pool, and suits travellers who would rather stay somewhere local and low-key than in a large beach resort.
The guest house stands at Kandaudawaththa in Wadduwa, a short drive inland from the coast rather than on the beach itself; Wadduwa Beach is roughly 2 km away. Wadduwa Railway Station, on the coastal line between Colombo and Galle, is about 2 km from the house, and Colombo lies roughly 30 km to the north.
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is about 75 km from the guest house by road, and the drive around Colombo and down the coast usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. The easiest way to arrive after a long flight is a private airport transfer booked in advance with Lakpura: an English-speaking driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to the guest house in an air-conditioned car, van or coach sized for your group, from 2 up to 15 guests, at a fixed price for the whole vehicle rather than per seat. The same service works in reverse for your departure flight. Book the Colombo (CMB) Airport transfer to Dhammika Magic Palace.
There are nine rooms, each with air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a private shower room with hot water, a small fridge and free Wi-Fi. Several look out over the garden, and there are rooms large enough for families travelling together.
The outdoor pool sits in the garden alongside a smaller pool for children, and there is a restaurant serving Sri Lankan and Asian dishes, with breakfast available each morning. Massage treatments can be arranged on site, and there is free parking for guests arriving by car.
Wadduwa is a quiet beach town, so days here are easy to spend between the pool, the garden and the long sandy beach a short ride away. Further south are the turtle hatcheries of the south-west coast, the historic city of Galle with its fort, and Mirissa, the base for whale-watching trips in season, while Colombo is close enough for a day of shopping and sightseeing. Lakpura can arrange private transfers and day tours to all of these from the guest house.
