Pick-up is from your accommodation in Ahangama. An air-conditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver takes you along the southern coastal highway to Mirissa Harbour, then returns you to Ahangama after the boat arrives back at the dock.
Which whale species might I see?
Blue whales are the most frequently recorded species in these waters, particularly between December and March. Sperm whales, fin whales, Bryde's whales, humpback whales, and several dolphin species — including spinner and bottlenose — are also observed. All sightings depend on the behaviour of wild animals and cannot be guaranteed.
When is the best time of year to take this tour?
The main season runs from November to April, with January through March offering the calmest seas and the highest frequency of blue whale sightings. Tours can operate outside this window when sea conditions allow.
