A picture book for young children by Sybil Wettasinghe, the Sri Lankan writer and illustrator whose work has been read by generations of children on the island. It belongs to a series of large letter books she made for readers at the very start of their reading lives, where the type is set big enough for small eyes and the pictures carry as much of the story as the words do.
The text is in English. Books of this kind are made to be shared: an adult reading aloud, a child following the shape of the letters and filling in the rest from the drawings, then coming back later to read it alone. Wettasinghe wrote and drew her own stories, so the pictures and the telling were never separate pieces of work.
Published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co., a long-established Sri Lankan house that publishes in Sinhala and English, including school and children's titles.
