A selection of newspaper columns by David Karunaratne, drawn from the run of pieces he wrote under the title Hella. Karunaratne wrote for Davasa and Riviresa, both published by the Independent Newspapers company, and the column appeared in those papers. What is gathered here is a chosen set from that body of writing rather than the complete sequence.
Column writing of this kind belongs as much to the papers it appeared in as to the man who signed it, and collecting it between covers is how such work survives past the week it was printed. Readers who followed the Sinhala press of that period, or who are interested in Sri Lankan newspaper writing as a form, are the natural audience.
The book is written entirely in Sinhala, with no English text, so some reading knowledge of the language is needed. It is published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd.
