A set of practice papers in Sinhala, compiled for children preparing for the Grade Five Scholarship Examination. The questions follow the format used in the examination itself, covering both of the papers candidates sit, and model answers are given alongside them. The content is drawn from the revised syllabus.
This is the third set in the Gunasena scholarship series, following the General Edition and the Silver Edition. Where those were issued for earlier stages of preparation, the Gold Edition is intended for use closer to the examination, when a child is working through full papers under timed conditions rather than studying a subject at a time.
The compilers are Sajith Abeysekara and Kasun Ganewaththa, both teachers with experience in primary education who completed their National Diploma in Teaching at the Hapitigama National College of Education in Mirigama.
The book is written entirely in Sinhala, including the questions, instructions and answers, so it will be of use to families whose children are following the Sinhala-medium primary curriculum in Sri Lanka or studying towards the scholarship examination from abroad. There is no English text and no parallel translation. Buyers outside Sri Lanka should be comfortable reading Sinhala, or have a Sinhala-reading parent or tutor working with the child, before ordering.
It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a Colombo publishing house that issues school and examination titles in Sinhala and English.
