A colouring book for young children, issued by M. D. Gunasena as part of a series in which every book carries the same title and is told apart by the colour of its cover. This is the yellow one.
The series is made for children in the primary grades. Each page gives a shape, an object, an animal or a fruit to be coloured in, and sets the name of that thing beside it in English. So the colouring and the words come together: the child fills in the picture and picks up the English term for what has just been coloured.
That double purpose is the whole design of the book. It is not a storybook and not a workbook of exercises — it is a set of simple outlines meant to be worked over with crayons or pencils, with a basic English vocabulary attached to them. For a parent or a teacher starting a child on English words, the pictures do the work of holding attention while the labels do the teaching.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd is an established Colombo publisher of educational and general books. The text here is in English.
Because the titles in this series are identical and only the cover colour separates them, it is worth noting the colour when ordering. This entry is the yellow cover.
