Two groups are named as the readers it was put together for: students, and people working in the tourism trade. That second group explains a good deal about the book's existence — Sri Lanka receives Chinese-speaking visitors, and guides, drivers, hotel staff and shopkeepers have practical reasons to want the language.
Buyers outside Sri Lanka should note the languages involved before ordering. The text is in Sinhala and Chinese. There is no English in it, and it assumes the reader already reads Sinhala — it teaches Chinese from Sinhala rather than the other way round. It will suit a Sinhala-speaking reader beginning Chinese, or someone building a collection of Sri Lankan language-teaching material. A reader without Sinhala will not be able to work through it.
