South Point Abbey sits on the south coast of Sri Lanka in Ahangama, offering guests the feel of a private home rather than a conventional hotel. The property can be rented entirely or by the room, making it equally well suited to a family holiday, a group retreat, or a couple seeking seclusion by the sea.

The villa's garden steps down to the beach through a grove of trees where birds and butterflies roam during the season, and the sea immediately adjoining the property is safe for swimming and excellent for snorkelling within the reef lagoon.

Accommodation

South Point Abbey has four large, airy bedrooms spread across two floors, all air-conditioned and fitted with ceiling fans, four-poster beds, and mosquito nets. Every room includes a modern bathroom with hot and cold water. On the first floor, three spacious bedrooms share a wide veranda overlooking the garden and the beach. Two of these rooms each feature a king-sized four-poster bed, large French windows opening onto the veranda, and an in-room safe. The third first-floor room has two single four-poster beds and connects to an adjoining room, making it particularly suitable for families; it also has its own separate entrance from the garden. On the ground floor, a fourth bedroom offers a double queen-sized bed, mosquito nets, and an en suite bathroom with his-and-her wash basins.

Facilities and Living Areas

The first-floor living area is furnished with comfortable sofas, a television, a music system, and large French windows that open to a spacious veranda with fine views of the ocean. On the ground floor, an open veranda leads to a study and a sitting area; the dining area is also set on the veranda. The study, which includes a fan, can be converted into a small single room if needed.

The modern kitchen invites guests to watch the chef prepare gourmet specialties. Meals not listed on the menu are available on request — guests are welcome to discuss preferences directly with the chef. For relaxation, the property provides an infinity pool and a jacuzzi. Wireless internet connectivity is available throughout, and yoga instructors and masseurs can be arranged with prior notice. A staff of six — comprising a chef, housekeeper, houseboy, gardener, night watchman, and manager — keeps the villa running smoothly.

Activities and Excursions

Beyond swimming and snorkelling, guests can enjoy diving, surfing, walking, jogging, paddle boating, and deep-sea fishing. Dolphins have been sighted in the waters opposite the property and have been known to accompany boats on several occasions. Nearby, a turtle hatchery supports an active conservation project that guests are welcome to visit.

The historic city of Galle and its magnificent Dutch Fort are within easy reach, as are the Hadunagoda Tea Factory and Koggala Lake. A few hours from the property lie the wildlife parks of Yala and Uda Walawe, and the Sinharaja Rain Forest, a haven for nature lovers.

Getting There

The drive from the Bandaranaike International Airport to South Point Abbey takes approximately three and a half hours along the coastal belt leading south. Passing the historic city of Galle, the journey from Koggala Airport is around ten minutes. SriLankan Airlines has introduced air taxi flights that reach Koggala in about 45 minutes. Three-wheeler taxis are widely available in the area, and the property arranges airport transfers upon request.
