Jetwing St. Andrews, Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
Perched amid misty mountains and tea estates in the cool climes of Nuwara Eliya, Jetwing St. Andrews is a colonial-style mansion that has stood for over a hundred years. It is approximately 170 km from Bandaranayake International Airport and sits within easy reach of the Nuwara Eliya town centre, making it a well-placed base for exploring the surrounding hill country.
Despite its age, the hotel carefully preserves the pace and atmosphere of the era in which it was built, while still offering the modern comforts that today's traveller expects — among them open wood fires and exclusive culinary experiences.
Accommodation
Guests can choose from standard rooms, family rooms and suites, each reflecting the colonial charm and architecture that defines the property. All rooms are equipped with a telephone, hot and cold water, a heater and a television. Family rooms and suites offer additional conveniences including a private bar, a safety locker and tea and coffee making facilities.
Dining and Relaxation
The hotel's signature restaurant, the Old Course, features a show kitchen and a walk-in wine cellar, providing a refined fine-dining experience. For lighter moments, the Road Hole Bar is a classic colonial-styled bar overlooking the hotel's lush gardens — an inviting spot for an evening drink. St. Andrews also takes pride in offering a curated selection of teas sourced from Sri Lanka's finest tea-growing regions.
Beyond the table, guests are welcome to stroll through the hotel garden, enjoy a game of billiards indoors, or browse the hotel boutique. A doctor on call and horse riding are among the additional facilities available, and access to the professional Nuwara Eliya Golf Course, located near the hotel, can be arranged for those who wish to play a round amid spectacular scenery.
Excursions
The hotel's location makes it an ideal starting point for excursions into the surrounding natural landscapes. Leopard Rock offers a trail rich in endemic birdlife as well as the endemic Toque Monkey, the Highland Bear Monkey, the Highland Giant Squirrel and endemic lizard species such as the Rhino-horned and Black-lipped lizards.
Adventure seekers can venture to Horton Plains National Park, situated over 2,000 metres above sea level, where endemic ferns and fauna thrive alongside the celebrated viewpoint known as World's End. Nature lovers will also find the Hakgala Botanical Gardens — conveniently close to Nuwara Eliya town — a rewarding destination in its own right.
