Daniel Defoe's castaway story told in Sinhala by Premasiri Mahingoda, published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena. The entire text is in Sinhala, so a reader will need the language to use it.

The novel follows a man who survives a shipwreck at sea — the only one aboard to do so — and swims to a deserted island, where he goes on to spend many years alone. For a long stretch his only company is a dog he comes across by chance. At one point he is attacked by cannibals.

Defoe's book was taken by many of its readers as a true account, though it is said not to be one. Some hold that it drew on the experience of Alexander Selkirk, a Scottish sailor who survived a shipwreck and lived alone on an island before being taken off it. The novel has held a notable place in world literature since it first appeared, and remains one of the English books most often carried into other languages for younger and general readers.

This Sinhala version suits readers in Sri Lanka and Sinhala speakers abroad who want the story in their own language, and households keeping Sinhala reading within reach of children growing up outside the country.
