A Sinhala novel by Oshadi Abeyrathna, published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. The text is entirely in Sinhala, with no English translation, so it will suit readers who are comfortable reading the language.
The story follows Januli, a teenage girl who has been living with her grandmother in Asgiriya and who is enrolled, without warning, at Clare Girls' International School. There she meets Bianca, Tin Yuji and Zoe, and the four become close friends. Their school life is interrupted when a group of strange adversaries, among them Charon, begins to target Januli. Zoe is badly hurt while trying to protect her. In order to save Zoe's life and to escape the enemies pursuing them, the girls follow Naomi's guidance and pass through a pond at the house into Atlantis, a hidden world on the floor of the deep ocean.
It is a fantasy adventure that moves from an ordinary Sri Lankan domestic setting and a school classroom into an undersea realm, with a friendship between four girls at its centre and a rescue driving the plot forward.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller issuing titles in Sinhala and English. For readers abroad who grew up reading Sinhala fiction, or for families keeping the language alive in children at home, this is the kind of contemporary Sinhala storytelling that is otherwise difficult to find outside Sri Lanka.
