Informazioni sull'esperienza
Kosgoda, on Sri Lanka's south-west coast, is known for its turtle hatcheries, and this short evening outing takes you to one of them to help release newly hatched turtles into the sea. It is a small, hands-on way to see conservation at work, and one that suits the whole family.
Your English-speaking chauffeur guide collects you from your hotel in Kosgoda and drives you to the hatchery. There you learn about the life cycle of sea turtles, the dangers they face between the nest and the open ocean, and the work being done to protect them.
The part everyone remembers comes at the water's edge. Guided by the hatchery staff, you set the tiny turtles down on the sand and watch them scramble towards the surf and disappear into the waves. Afterwards you are driven back to your hotel in Kosgoda.
Releases take place in the evening only and run exclusively from February to June, so plan your booking inside that season. Hotel pick-up and drop-off in Kosgoda, an air-conditioned vehicle, the chauffeur guide, all entrance fees to the turtle hatchery and conservation centres, 1 litre of bottled mineral water per person, and all taxes and service charges are included. Food, drinks, optional gratuities and personal expenses are not.
