About this experience
Depart from your Kalutara, Wadduwa, or Panadura hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, your English-speaking chauffeur guide at the wheel, and head north into Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle. First stop is the Dambulla Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site cut into a granite outcrop, sheltering five chambers of ancient murals and Buddha statues that date back over two millennia. Your guide walks you through each cave, putting the artistry and religious significance into context before you move on.
After Dambulla, you reach Sigiriya Rock Fortress — a fifth-century citadel rising nearly 200 metres from the surrounding plain. Climb the sculpted stairways past the famous frescoes and the Mirror Wall, then take in the summit ruins of a palace that once commanded the entire region. A litre of bottled mineral water per person is provided to keep you going on the ascent. Hotel drop-off is included. Entrance fees, meals, and gratuities are not covered. Minimum age is 7. Total duration is 13 hours.
