About this experience
Board a private 4x4 safari jeep and head into Gal Oya National Park, the wildlife reserve surrounding Senanayake Samudra — the largest reservoir in Sri Lanka. Over three hours, your experienced driver doubles as your tracker, reading the landscape as herds of elephants gather at the water's edge. The park's dry arid zone supports a remarkable cycle of life year-round, and the reservoir sets a vivid backdrop for every sighting. Bottled water is provided, and free pickup and drop-off is included for any location within 5 km of the park gate. Each jeep carries a maximum of six passengers, keeping the experience genuinely private.
Your safari can be booked with or without park entrance tickets — if you opt for "Jeep with No Tickets", entrance fees are paid separately in cash at the gate. Hotel transfers beyond the 5 km radius and food are not included. Minimum age for this tour is five years. Lakpura organises the full experience in English, so you can focus on the wildlife rather than the logistics.

Drive and boat trips were good in themselves but wildlife limited
We did the boat safari. Pleasant trip but on a sunny day it can get very hot.
Good for elephants and large water birds. The fringes of the lake are either grass or rocks so we saw few smaller birds.
Next day we did a jee…

Not to be missed. Unique experience
A boat safari with guides. Very beautiful!
Many elephants and birds. Even monkeys and crocodiles. We stayed until sunset. Which was amazing to see.

Wonderful boat safari
Amazing boat safari at 6.30am. Saw elephants, crocodiles, snakes and so many beautiful birds. Don't miss it. It was raining too much on our first day so the trip was cancelled. But well worth the wait.
