This is an abridged Sinhala translation, by Premasiri Mahingoda, of Kim, the novel by Rudyard Kipling, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. The entire text is in Sinhala — readers without Sinhala will not be able to use it.
The story follows Kim, a child left orphaned by the death of his parents, a poor Irish couple. He survives by begging in the streets of Lahore. There he meets an elderly Tibetan lama, and from that meeting his life turns onto a different course.
Because this is a shortened version rather than a full translation, it suits readers coming to Kipling's novel in Sinhala for the first time, and readers who want the story at a manageable length. It is published by M. D. Gunasena & Co. (Pvt) Ltd, a long-established Sri Lankan publishing house.
