This page explains how Vrischika (Scorpio) and Makara (Capricorn) are matched in Sri Lankan porondam (Sinhala) and porutham (Tamil). It covers the rashi-level results in both directions and shows why the two birth stars decide the real outcome.
What does the rashi count mean for Vrischika and Makara?
The rashi here is the moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka, not the newspaper sun sign. Matching counts from the bride's moon sign to the groom's, so the direction matters.
When the bride is Vrischika and the groom is Makara, the count is 3. The Sinhala rashi porondam is partly obtained, while the Tamil rasi porutham is not obtained.
When the bride is Makara and the groom is Vrischika, the count is 11. Both the Sinhala rashi porondam and the Tamil rasi porutham are obtained. The same pair of signs therefore gives different rashi results depending on which partner holds which sign.
Are Mars and Saturn friendly rashi lords?
Vrischika is ruled by Mars and Makara by Saturn. Friendship between planets is not always mutual. For this pair the relationship is neutral in one direction and hostile in the other, so the two lords are not counted as friends.
In the Sinhala system, the rashyadhipathi porondam is partly obtained in both directions, reflecting this mixed relationship. In the Tamil system, the rasi adhipathi porutham is not obtained in either direction.
This is a rashi-level reading only. It describes how the two sign lords relate to each other, and it sits alongside many other factors that come from the birth stars.
What about vashya for this pair?
Vashya looks at whether one moon sign is traditionally seen as drawn to, or in harmony with, the other. Classical tables list specific sign pairs that share this link.
Vrischika and Makara are not one of those pairs. As a result, the Sinhala vashya porondam and the Tamil vasya porutham are both not obtained, and this is the same whichever partner is Vrischika and whichever is Makara.
It is common for a couple not to obtain vashya. It is one item among several, and families and astrologers read it as part of the whole chart rather than on its own. The birth stars, covered next, carry much more of the weight.
Why do the birth stars decide the real match?
Each moon sign contains parts of several birth stars (nakshatra), each divided into quarters. For one bride sign and one groom sign there are 81 star-quarter combinations, and the site's calculator checked every one.
With a Vrischika bride and Makara groom, 98% of combinations are classed as weak in the Tamil system. With a Makara bride and Vrischika groom, only 4% are. In both directions none reach 8 of 10 porutham, none show a Tamil rajju clash, and all pass the Sinhala porondam when the weekday factor is set aside.
Please use the calculator with full birth details, and consult a family astrologer for any marriage decision.
