Accepted Answer

The drive covers approximately 167 km and typically takes four to five hours depending on traffic and road conditions. The route passes through Kandy before climbing into the highlands on the A5. Road conditions on the mountain sections can slow progress, especially after heavy rain.

Question 3

Question 4

Can I visit a tea factory near Kandapola?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Heritance Tea Factory hotel is itself a converted colonial tea-processing facility and offers guided demonstrations of the tea-making process. Several working estates in the surrounding area also permit guided visits, typically arranged through your accommodation.

Question 5

What is the weather like in Kandapola?

Accepted Answer

Kandapola is cool year-round due to its high elevation. Daytime temperatures typically reach 18–22°C, while nights can drop to around 8°C. The wettest months fall between May and July (southwest monsoon) and again in October–November. January to April offers the clearest, driest conditions.

Question 6

Is Kandapola close to Nuwara Eliya?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Kandapola is approximately 15–20 minutes by road from Nuwara Eliya town. Many visitors use Kandapola as a quieter base and make day trips to Nuwara Eliya's Gregory Lake, market, and colonial-era landmarks.

Question 7

How can I arrange a transfer to Kandapola from the airport?

Accepted Answer

Lakpura provides private transfers from Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport directly to Kandapola, as well as intercity routes from Kandy, Colombo, and other destinations. Transfer fares are quoted per route at the time of booking rather than as a fixed published rate.

Question 8

What birds can I see in the Kandapola area?

Accepted Answer

The highland sholas and tea-estate margins around Kandapola support a range of endemic and hill-country species, including the Sri Lanka white-eye, dull-blue flycatcher, and various warblers. Early morning is the most productive time. A local guide familiar with the forest patches significantly improves sightings.
