Accepted Answer

Jasminum sambac is primarily cultivated in Sri Lanka rather than found as a wild species. It grows readily in home gardens, temple grounds, and smallholdings across the low country wet and dry zones. The plant adapts well to Sri Lanka's tropical climate and does not require specialist conditions to thrive.

Question 4

Why is jasmine important in Sri Lankan religious ceremonies?

Accepted Answer

Jasmine flowers, particularly Jasminum sambac, are considered auspicious across Buddhist and Hindu traditions practised in Sri Lanka. Question 5

Is Jasminum sambac safe to use medicinally at home?

Accepted Answer

Traditional use of Jasminum sambac for external applications such as skin preparations is generally considered low-risk, but internal use should follow guidance from a qualified ayurvedic practitioner. As with all medicinal plants, potency and preparation method matter, and individual responses can vary. Consulting a certified practitioner before beginning any herbal treatment is advisable.

Question 6

What is the difference between jasmine species found in Sri Lanka?

Accepted Answer

Sri Lanka is home to several jasmine species, of which Jasminum sambac is the most culturally prominent and widely cultivated.
