A Sinhala-language word reference dealing with two things at once: samana pada, words of similar meaning, and wiruddha pada, words of opposite meaning. Alongside the words themselves, it addresses where each is more suitable in use — the question of which of several near-equivalents fits a given context, rather than a bare list of alternatives.
The synonyms are arranged in Sinhala alphabetical order, so a word can be looked up directly. Kalpa Eranda has compiled it with school students in mind, and that ordering is what makes it workable for them as a desk book during written work.
The entire text is in Sinhala. There is no English translation or parallel text, so a reader needs to be able to read the Sinhala script and understand the language to use it at all. It will suit families raising children in Sinhala abroad, students following the Sri Lankan curriculum outside the country, and adult learners working on vocabulary and register.
