A Sinhala-language compilation of verse, put together by the poet Sagara Palansuriya and published in Colombo by M. D. Gunasena & Co. The text is in Sinhala throughout, so a reader will need the language to use it.
The collection was assembled to introduce groups of poems by selected poets, gathered under headings of related subject matter. Palansuriya's own introduction to the work sets it against the history of Sinhala poetry and the poets who enriched it — among them Kumaratunga Munidasa, P. B. Alwis Perera and S. Mahinda Thero, as well as Palansuriya himself, who was among the poets of that generation.
It suits readers of Sinhala who want a selection of verse in one volume rather than the separate collections of individual poets, and it will be of use to students of Sinhala literature and to Sri Lankan families abroad keeping reading material in the language at home.
