Traditional athulpatha is used for various purposes. Traditionally it was used to close curry pots to save them from insects and flies and also to store various fruits and vegetables. Reed products are weaved by highly skilled Sri Lankan weavers using a variety of techniques. Reed plant which is used to make this basket is known to be an Eco friendly, safe, and non-toxic material.
