Whole star anise from Bowatte, in a 30 g pack. These are the dried, star-shaped fruits of Illicium verum: dark brown, woody pods with a strong, sweet aniseed flavour and scent.
How it is used
Dropped whole into broths, soups, curries and biryani while they simmer, then lifted out before serving. Star anise also goes into spiced teas, mulled drinks and some baking, and can be ground for spice blends. One or two stars are usually enough for a pot.
In the pack
Whole star anise pods, 30 g.
Storage
Keep in a closed container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Whole pods keep their flavour longer than ground spice.
