Simha and Kanya Porondam

Simha and Kanya sit side by side in the zodiac, so this pairing reads quite differently depending on which sign belongs to the bride and which to the groom. Here we explain the rashi-level results of Sinhala porondam and Tamil porutham for both arrangements, and why the two birth stars matter far more than the signs alone.

What does the rashi count mean for Simha and Kanya?

The rashi here is the moon sign (chandra rashi) in the sidereal zodiac used in Sri Lanka, not the sun sign printed in newspapers. The rashi count is taken from the bride's sign to the groom's.

With a Simha bride and Kanya groom, the count is 2. Rashi porondam is not obtained in the Sinhala system, and rasi porutham is not obtained in the Tamil system.

With a Kanya bride and Simha groom, the count is 12. Sinhala rashi porondam is partly obtained, while Tamil rasi porutham is obtained. The same two signs therefore give a noticeably different rashi result once the direction is reversed.

How do the rashi lords and vashya compare?

Simha is ruled by the Sun and Kanya by Mercury. Their relationship is described as friend and neutral: one lord treats the other as a friend, while the other regards it as neutral. This is enough for rashyadhipathi porondam and rasi adhipathi porutham to be obtained in both directions, in both the Sinhala and Tamil systems.

Vashya, which looks at a traditional sense of mutual attraction between signs, is not obtained for this pair in either direction or system. That is a single item among many, and it is weighed alongside the star-based items rather than on its own.

Why do the birth stars decide the real match?

Rashi items are only a small part of the picture. Most porondam and porutham items depend on the two birth stars (nakshatra), and each pair of signs allows 81 possible star-quarter combinations.

With a Simha bride and Kanya groom, about 21% of those combinations pass Sinhala porondam (excluding the weekday item), none reach 8 of 10 Tamil poruthams, and about 51% come out weak by the Tamil count.

With a Kanya bride and Simha groom, about 90% pass Sinhala porondam, about 30% reach 8 of 10 poruthams and only about 6% are weak. In both directions, about 4% show a Tamil rajju clash.

How should families use these results?

These figures show how varied real outcomes are, even for the same pair of signs. Two couples with Simha and Kanya moon signs can receive very different results once their actual birth stars and star quarters are known.

For a meaningful reading, use the calculator with full birth details for both people: date, exact time and place of birth. This identifies the correct moon sign, nakshatra and quarter, and gives the full list of items with their statuses.

For marriage decisions, it is wise to discuss the results with a family astrologer, who can consider the complete horoscopes and the customs your family follows.
