Nestled in the beach resort of Unawatuna, 140 km south of Colombo along Sri Lanka's Southern coastal belt, Hotel Flower Garden is a quiet retreat set within a sprawling tropical garden of palms and colourful flora. Situated further south of the historic city of Galle, the property is reachable via the Colombo–Galle–Matara main motorway as well as the Southern railway line that runs through Galle to Matara.

The hotel's setting — framed by pristine beaches and palm-fringed shores — makes Unawatuna a natural escape for those seeking both rest and gentle adventure. A famous dagoba on the summit of the northern headland gives the bay its distinctive, memorable character.

Accommodation

Hotel Flower Garden offers 25 cabanas, each decorated to European standards and kept neat and tidy. Every unit is equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets, an electric shower, and European-style toilets. In front of each cabana is a small private space where guests can unwind, listen to birdsong, or settle into a good book — all within arm's reach of the lush garden surroundings. Service is available with a single call.

Dining and Recreation

The hotel's restaurant is clean, airy, and well equipped, serving both Sri Lankan and European cuisine across breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Staff are also happy to arrange a snack at any hour of the day. For recreation, an outdoor swimming pool is maintained on the property and is a firm favourite among guests when the weather is fine.

Ayurvedic Health Programmes

Hotel Flower Garden also runs health maintenance programmes grounded in Ayurvedic principles. Medicinal herbs and techniques are tailored to the needs of each individual, and programmes run for between 3 and 14 days. They typically include consultations, body massages, body purifications, herbal baths, and facials.

Excursions and Activities

The waters around Unawatuna offer diving, snorkelling, and some surfing, with local diving schools on hand to guide visitors. A handful of shipwrecks in the area provide an added draw for those keen to explore beneath the surface, though the diving scene here is quieter in scale than at Hikkaduwa further north along the coast. The hotel arranges sightseeing tours to Yala National Park using its own vehicles and drivers, giving guests the chance to experience a wildlife safari.
