Devon Falls drops 97 metres through the lush highlands of Thalawakale, Nuwara Eliya, making it the 19th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Its commanding cascade and verdant surroundings make it one of the most striking natural landmarks in the Central Highlands.

The falls take their name from a successful British coffee planter known as Devon, whose legacy is remembered in this corner of the hill country long after the era of colonial-era plantations has passed.

Getting Close to the Falls

For those who want a truly intimate view of Devon Falls, access can be gained by passing through a nearby plantation. The path brings visitors right up to the base of the torrent, where the sheer scale of the water plunging down the rock face becomes fully apparent.

Devon Falls and St. Clair's

Devon Falls sits close to St. Clair's, another celebrated waterfall in the Nuwara Eliya area. Together, the two are considered among the must-visit waterfalls of the Central Highlands, and many travellers choose to experience both on the same journey through this scenic region of Sri Lanka.
