Somerset Mirissa Eco is a 13-room boutique hotel with an infinity pool, set among greenery on Mahena Road in Bandaramulla, a short walk inland from Mirissa Beach. It is the quieter, garden-side member of the Somerset family in Mirissa: balcony rooms looking over the pool and trees, a small restaurant, and the beach a few minutes away on foot.
All 13 rooms are air-conditioned, with a private bathroom, a flat-screen television with cable channels and a balcony. The hotel sells two room types, both for two guests; the names below are the ones on its own website, so quote them when you enquire.
The hotel publishes the same short description for both categories and does not list room sizes or bed types, so if you need twin beds or have a preference between the two, tell us when you enquire and we will confirm it with the hotel. An extra person can be accommodated on request. Families are welcome. Check-in is from 2pm, and early check-in or late check-out can be requested, subject to availability.
The infinity pool is the centrepiece of the hotel, and guests often mention the view over the surrounding trees as they swim. The restaurant and bar seats around 30 and is open from 6am to 10pm, serving Sri Lankan and international dishes made with fresh local ingredients, from seafood and the day's catch to burgers, wraps and lighter plates, with cocktails in the evening. The dress code is casual.
Mirissa Beach is a short walk away, and the hotel can arrange whale-watching trips, snorkelling and surfing lessons. Whale-watching boats leave from Mirissa Fisheries Harbour, with the season off the south coast generally running from about November to April, and you might see a blue whale. The palm-topped headland of Coconut Tree Hill is a favourite sunset spot. Further afield, Weligama Beach, popular with beginner surfers, is about 5 kilometres west in a straight line, and the old Dutch ramparts of Matara Fort are about 9 kilometres east.
Yes. Somerset Mirissa Eco shares its reservations team with two sister hotels nearby in Bandaramulla: Somerset Mirissa Beach, about 300 metres away in a straight line and right on the seafront, and Somerset Mirissa Blue, on the hillside with a rooftop pool and an Ayurvedic spa. Choose Eco if you would rather have a pool and a green outlook than wake up on the sand.
Yes. Mirissa Railway Station on the coastal line from Colombo is about 1.6 kilometres away in a straight line, and Kamburugamuwa station about 3.4 kilometres away. A tuk-tuk will take you the rest of the way in a few minutes, or ask us to arrange a pick-up.
The hotel is about 152 kilometres in a straight line from Bandaranaike International Airport, and most of the journey is on the Southern Expressway. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Somerset Mirissa Eco, which brings you to the door on Mahena Road.
It suits couples and small families who want somewhere calm and green with a good pool, but still within walking distance of the beach, the restaurants and the whale-watching boats. For more choice in the area see our places to stay in Mirissa.
