Mirage Kandyan Heights is a 21-room hotel of the Mirage Hotels group on Heerassagala Road, in the green hills on the south-western side of Kandy near Hantana, with an infinity pool that looks out over misty ridges. Every room has a balcony or terrace, and the city's temples are a short drive away.
All rooms are air-conditioned, with a balcony or terrace, a seating area with a sofa, a flat-screen television with cable channels, a telephone, Wi-Fi, a safe and a kettle. Bathrooms have a shower, a bidet, a hair dryer and complimentary toiletries. The hotel sells four room types:
Room sizes are not published. An extra bed can be arranged, so tell us who is travelling, including the ages of any children, and we will match you to the right room.
The Kandyan View Restaurant is the main dining room, serving international and traditional Sri Lankan dishes made with local ingredients, and as the name suggests it makes the most of the outlook over the hills. Curated Flavors is the hotel's more elaborate dining experience, with dishes that mix local heritage and international ideas, prepared to order by the chef.
The centrepiece is the Horizon Edge Pool, an infinity pool whose edge seems to run into the mountains beyond, with a terrace beside it. There is a garden planted with local flowers, and the hotel can arrange airport transfers.
The hotel is in the hill country of Hantana, and the Ceylon Tea Museum, in an old tea factory, is about 3 kilometres away by road. The Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya are about 2.5 kilometres away in a straight line. By road the hotel puts the Temple of the Tooth at about 6.5 kilometres, the giant Buddha at Bahirawakanda at about 6.3 kilometres and Asgiriya Maha Viharaya at about 6.7 kilometres. Further out are the temples of the old Kandyan kingdom: Embekka Devalaya, known for its wood carvings, about 9 kilometres; Gadaladeniya, about 11.7 kilometres; the frescoed rock temple of Degaldoruwa, about 12.7 kilometres; and Lankatilaka, about 13.5 kilometres.
Yes. Kandy railway station, on the main line between Colombo and the hill country, is about 3 kilometres away in a straight line. Arrange a pick-up with the hotel or with us in advance, as the hotel is up in the hills rather than in the city centre.
The hotel is about 82 kilometres in a straight line from Bandaranaike International Airport, but the road climbs into the hills and through Kandy's traffic, so allow a good part of the day. The simplest way to arrive is a private transfer from Colombo airport to Mirage Kandyan Heights, which takes you all the way to the door.
It suits couples and families who want a pool and greener surroundings than the city centre, with Kandy's sights a short drive away rather than on the doorstep. The family and triple rooms make it a practical choice for parents travelling with children. For more choice in the city see our places to stay in Kandy.
