About this experience
Yala is Sri Lanka's second-largest national park and holds the highest concentration of leopards on the island — the elusive, ever-popular highlight of any safari here. This private tour puts you in your own jeep, capped at six passengers, with an experienced driver-tracker guiding you through thorny shrub, tall trees, scenic lagoons and golden sand dunes, with January to July the prime months for leopard sightings.
Beyond the leopards, watch for mud-bathing elephants, sloth bear, wild boar, water buffalo, spotted and sambar deer and golden jackal. Yala is a haven for birds too — peacocks, flamingos, pelicans, spoonbills, painted and rare black-necked storks, grey, purple and night herons, darters and more. Free pickup and drop-off is included within five kilometres of the park gates.
