One title in The Little Heroes Series, a set of English-language storybooks from M. D. Gunasena & Co. written for young children. The aim of the series is practical: to introduce good character and sound values through stories, rather than through instruction, and to keep the telling simple and enjoyable enough for a small child to follow.
The reading level is early — these are books for children who are beginning to read on their own, or who are being read to at home or in a classroom. The English is kept plain for that reason.
M. D. Gunasena & Co. is a long-established Colombo publisher and bookseller, and children's and educational titles are a familiar part of its list. Parents and teachers in Sri Lanka will recognise the house; readers abroad may find this a straightforward way to put a locally published English storybook into a child's hands.
